By then it was 7, and the sun was going down, but Kozmo sped us to Alicante, in the dark, on the big highways, scary, till we got to the safe haven of Altea, north of Alicante. Since it has a rocky beach, it hasnīt been overdeveloped by tourist resorts. The next town south of here, down the coast, Benidorm, is truly scary - looks like Vegas. We didnīt think we would get this close to Valencia, so we hoped for a good (not tourist menu) paella, and we lucked out. We got in after 9, hit the street at 10 (which is barely the beginning of dinner time, in Spain), and were directed to a place with "regional, creative" cuisine. We had a paella of the region with mussels, chicken, lamb, prawns, and a small lobster like creature. Another bottle of the local wine, but, as it all seems to include merlot and cabernet, I am going to eschew from now on, and order more Rioja!
